The program includes either one to one up to six to one teaching. The ratio is dependent on the functioning and behavioural characteristics of the child, budget parameters of the parents and the potential combination of children currently attending LUC Academy.
Quarterly feedback meetings between therapists and parents (one hour) ensuring parents are fully up to date with progress and to ensure that all skills taught at the centre are also generalised in the home environment.
Regular assessments, including the VBMapp, created by Dr Mark Sundberg, social skills and self help checklists and development.
All materials required for your child’s program are supplied by the Centre (we continue to import materials from the USA, as well as the latest curriculums used to teach writing, language, reading and maths skills).
Program excludes daily snack or any electronic equipment, such as DVD’s or music centre – the centre does however have a roving iPad.
Reports are issued at the end of each term.
We work hand in hand with all therapies that the child is involved in e.g. Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. We include them in our meetings with parents and integrate all goals into the child's programme at LUC Academy. We also have a Speech Therapist and Occupational therapist at LUC Academy who are available for sessions.
We offer holistic programmes which are tailored to fit each child's individual needs. We are trained in ABA but can also offer any therapy that is required to best fit the childs needs i.e. floortime, TEACCH, PECS and adapted sign language. Children's social skills are also accelerated as specific activities are designed and practiced on a daily basis requiring children to interact with one another, facilitated by the therapists.
We offer community programmes as well and implement this during therapy time. Community programmes include shopping, gym outings and restaurants which allow the child to generalise skills learnt in the therapy room and to be a part of the community.
Afternoon programme: Homework class, aftercare and extra classes to work on certain skills that require attention.
Programme ratios: (One to one up to six to one for both ABA/Holistic therapy and curriculum teaching)
Physical education during therapy.
The above specialists continue to support our Centre.
Training also continues as we havetwo in house therapists who have completed the necessary courses in behavior analysis.
All therapists have at least one university degree and many have more than one degree.
We are bi-lingual (English and Afrikaans) and are able to implement the program in either language.
